Glavaš was convicted of committing war crimes against Serbs in Osijek in 1991.
The court decided to decrease the length of the sentences handed out to co-defendants in the trial as well. Ivica Krnjak’s sentence was reduced from eight to seven years and Gordana Getoš-Magdić’s sentence was decreased from seven to five years.
The Supreme Court also decided to reduce the sentences of Dino Kontić and Zdravko Dragić from five to three and a half years. Tihomir Valentić’s sentence was reduced from five to four and a half years.
The state prosecution appealed the conviction earlier, asking for longer sentences, but the court rejected the appeal.
The convicted persons are also expected to pay the legal fees of Radoslav Ratković, who testified that he survived against them.
After the verdict was given initially, Glavaš fled to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he has citizenship as well, which did not allow him to be extradited to Croatia. All of the other defendants are in custody and their sentences would be reduced additionally according to the amount of time they have already spent in custody.
Glavaš was in custody from April 2007 to January 2008.
