Kosovo: Four Killed Near Macedonian Border

Kosovo police say that that four people died and one was injured when their car was ambushed as it entered the town of Viti in southern Kosovo, near the Macedonian border. Police said that around 2am on Monday five persons were travelling in a car with Macedonian plates when they were shot at by unidentified assailants.
“Three persons died at the scene while two were sent to the Gjilan emergency room. One of them died there,” Baki Kelani, Kosovo police spokesperson, told Balkan Insight.
Three of the persons involved have been identified as Macedonian citizens of Albanian ethnicity and two are from Kosovo. “All I can say is that two Macedonian citizens are dead and one is injured and the two other victims were Kosovo citizens,” Kelani said.
Kelani explained that Kosovo police were working closely with their counterparts in Macedonia to identify the victims and get additional information for further investigations.
He added that police found shells of 7, 62 mm shells at the scene and that the motives behind the killings are still unknown.
“The case is still under investigation and we cannot release the identities of the deceased,” Kelani said.
Meanwhile, Macedonian police spokesman Ivo Kotevski said: "The Macedonian Ministry of Internal Affairs is in constant contact with the Kosovo authorities and we are familiar with the incident. However, we will let the authorities there conduct the investigation."
Kotevski would not say whether the incident might be linked with last month's raids by Macedonian police in the region near the border with Kosovo when several stashes of weapons were found.
He was not able to say whether this might be retaliation for the killing by police of four armed gunmen who were transporting some of the weapons last month.

Prishtinë 17 qershor 2010 - Dogana e Kosovës ka konfiskuar municion dhe naftë kontrabandë në dy raste të ndara, njofton shërbimi për informim i Doganës së Kosovës.
Njësitet e saj, thuhet në njoftim, janë duke ndërmarrë aksione të vazhdueshme për kontrollin kufirit si dhe të tregut të brendshëm.
Sot në orët e para të mëngjesit është ndërmarrë një kontroll i organizuar në rajonin e Gjakovës, respektivisht në pikë-kalimin kufitar të Qafës së Morinës. Aty, rreth orës 7 e 30 minuta, njësitet antikontrabandë në një furgon të tipit VW, me targa të Kosovës, kanë gjetur 54o copë fishekë të kalibrit 7.62 mm. Municioni ishte i fshehur në pjesën e pasme të furgonit. Pas procedimit të rastit nga Dogana rasti është referuar në Policinë e Kosovës për masat e mëtejme.
Në rastin tjetër njësitet antikontrabandë në orën 2 e 15 minuta, në rajonin e Mitrovicës kanë ndaluar një furgon, në të cilin zbuluan 1040 litra naftë të kontrabanduar. Kundër vozitësit (shtetas kosovar) ka filluar procedura kundërvajtjes doganore konform Kodit Doganore dhe të Akcizave, kurse mallrat e kontrabanduara (nafta) menjëherë i është nënshtruar konfiskimit si dhe përkohësisht është bërë ndalimi i automjetit, thuhet në njoftimin e Doganës.
